Inis Saimer is unique in Ireland as it is located in a sheltered location, it is less than 2 minutes from the mainland, it takes 5/6 minutes from the house on the island to the local shops, it has a floating jetty for safe and easy all-tide 24-hour access, the entire island is for sale, it is completely private with a serene island atmosphere, and is surrounded by the Erne River with its otters, seals, duck, herons, cormorants, and seatrout and salmon can be seen jumping from the windows and terrace of the house.

Inis Saimer’s location and its island is steeped in eventful history.

Myth has it, that a Scythian chief named Parthalon settled on the island with his followers around 2700 BC and were the first people to set foot in Ireland.

Historical records indicate that Inis Saimer was used as a protected stronghold by Irish chieftains such as the O’Cannons, O’Mulderrys, and the O’Donnells.

Cistercian monks used it as a place of residence in the 1100’s and 1200’s.

The island also played a role in various historical battles at Erne River crossings.

Ballyshannon is always referred to the oldest town in Ireland .It is believed that the first settlement in Ireland was established on the island of Inis Saimer, located in the River Erne near where Ballyshannon now stands around 2700 BC . This was a well known and regarded international trading harbour with ships plying to Europe and America. It is still evident today the fine structures of residences that are dotted along the mall quay would have been originally merchants residents an indication of the wealth in this port from that era. .
