Dernish Island is located 500m off the mainland of Co. Sligo and is uninhabited at present. It has stunning backdrops on all sides, with Donegal Bay and the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, and majestic Benbulben and the North Sligo landscape to the east and south. On clear days, the Donegal Mountains and Slieve Liag cliffs can be seen.

The island can be accessed by boat from Milk Harbour, subject to making your own arrangements, or on foot or by jeep across Streedagh Beach when the tide is out. The island is approached on the south side and has one grass laneway travelling south to north through the centre of the island.
