The Battle of Ballinamuck pitted the combined Irish and French forces under General Humbert and General Blake against the English under Lord Cornwallis. Today, a memorial statue of a rebel pikeman dominates the centre of the village.
The village is a popular location with national school, local shop, hairdressers and Dillons is a popular bar & bistro and there is also the well known 98 Bar. Moyne secondary school, which is well renowned, is also nearby. The house is just beside Edenmore bog walk which a 4.5 km looped walk around a raised bog with a wide diversity of plants birds and wildlife.
