Government Funding Available for Cladding Remediation in NI

The Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS) – which offers government funding for remediation of unsafe non-ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) cladding on high-rise residential buildings - is still available. Property owners and managing agents in Northern Ireland are encouraged to take advantage of this vital government initiative aimed at improving building safety. Residents of these high-rise buildings can also take action to help ensure the safety of their homes.

Aim of the Scheme

The CSS provides funding to remove and replace unsafe cladding materials, without shifting the financial burden onto leaseholders or residents. The aim of the fund is to reduce or address the fire risks associated with exterior wall cladding that is potentially unsafe.

Eligible Buildings

The scheme applies to buildings over 11 metres high or with more than 4 storeys with at least 2 residential dwellings that are found to have unsafe non-ACM cladding. This initiative is in direct response to the effort to ensure safer homes following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Who Can Apply?

An application for the CSS can be submitted by the person or organisation legally responsible for the building’s external repairs or their representative.

For residents, this is a question of safety, security and peace of mind and they are encouraged to alert their property owner or managing agent to the scheme.

Residents who think their building might be eligible for the scheme should contact the building owner or managing agent in the first instance.

So far around £3.2 million has been awarded to building owners in Northern Ireland to protect residents.

How to Apply

Applications can be made via Homes England, who are administering the scheme on behalf of the Department for Communities (DfC). More information on the scheme and how to apply is available on nidirect

If you’re a property owner or managing agent, check if your building is eligible and submit your application while you still can.
