I am already absolutely smitten with this very distinguished, very beautiful family home. It is totally & utterly spectacular in every way inside and out & has so much to offer the right purchaser. If you’ve been waiting to fall head over heels in love with a property of this calibre prepare to be bowled over (or should that be Game, Set, Match??? Don't worry you'll get it when I serve up all the details later....)

Every once upon a while something very special comes along and I am absolutely delighted to have been been entrusted with the very important role to find the perfect family for my incredibly unique new sale listing @ 'The Four Winds', 55 Culcrum Road, Cloughmills

The history behind the home is always of great interest to me and 'The Four Winds' has quite the tale to tell! As with all good stories the best place to start is right back at the very beginning....

Locals may be aware that this magnificent property has only ever been home to two sets of owners and interestingly both Doctors.

Back circa 1953 this beautiful 2 acre plot was hand picked by Dr Crawford the local and highly esteemed GP to the villagers of Cloughmills. Clearly a driven and astute gentleman he knew exactly what he wanted and needed from his home and so with a high level of input from both he and his wife the plans were drawn up & put into action. At this time Doctors would have operated their practice/surgery at their own home and that's exactly what happened from 55 Culcrum Road, Cloughmills.

The build began in the early 1950's and the entire dwelling has been solidly constructed by traditional local Corkey brick. The Crawford's were renowned not only for their great work in the community but also their travels and so reminders of their lifestyle began to make their way to 'The Four Winds' both inside and out.

Situated on a super generous 2 acre site No 55 Culcrum Road enjoys the most magically beautiful grounds and gardens I honestly have ever seen. A setting made for a Famous Five adventure with a swan entrance to a woodland wonderland fit for a fairy princess. I have permission to share with you the story behind the 'Secret Garden' with its rustic rose archway and orginal summer house intact. Back in the day there was no such thing as ringing for an appointment during practice hours instead Dr Crawford had to find his own method of getting some peace from patients and that is how the 'Secret Garden' became his perfect personal hideaway.

Incredibly there are over 250 different species of flowers, plants and trees in the breathtaking grounds of this tremendous home some taken from exotic climes such as the Himalayas and they are still thriving in the fertile Cloughmills soil. Mains sewers and water are of course present and correct but guess what - it also has its very own fresh spring water well!

We now move forward in time to 1991 when Dr Hugh McGavock & his wife Dr Elizabeth McGavock in search for a perfect home for their family came to hear that the beautiful property at 55 Culcrum Road was up for sale. To see it is to understand and so naturally on viewing they were totally mesmorised by its unforgettable charm and it's potential to work and raise a family in.

The impressive 5 bedroom (1 ensuite) and 3 reception room accommodation (plus surgery & office) on offer was obviously a major factor to consider in the quest for their forever home but the practical, versatile square footage was not the only element that captivated them from day one. When The McGavock's took up residency with their three sons one of the changes to the grounds made by them was the introduction of a tennis court. Now I don't just mean any make shift tennis court no it had to be an actual replica of a proper sized, functioning, all weather tennis court. To enable the 'to scale' additional ground had to be acquired from neighbouring farmers and that tennis court remains a very noteable and unique feature of this wonderful home to this day.

Seldom does property of this calibre come on the open market and it’s absolutely true - they just don’t build them like this anymore - solid, dependable, steeped in fine character and oozing with charisma to my mind there is no place like this fabulous home nor could it be replicated.

To give them their original and official title they would have been grandly referred to as Drawing Room, Dining Room and Family Lounge but in the interest of our buyer keeping an open mind I really want them to envisage what their use potentially would be for each of these reception rooms. I believe that the end buyer won't look at a home like this and focus on what the current owner does with it instead what you are thinking and imagining is your family gatherings, your children's milestones, your furniture and furnishings and what would go where and all the memories you'd be making.

In addition to the reception rooms on the ground floor you will also find at the rear porch the doctor's waiting room and surgery with gorgeous original tiled floor. A room which of course could serve many other uses depending on it's new buyers lifestyle and requirements but a very important room from which many an ailment was treated by Dr Crawford. I also give special mention to the late great Dr Hugh McGavock who found inspiration to write and have published 3 wonderful books from this very room which is a legacy I know his family are immensely proud of.

The fairly recently re-configured gorgeous new kitchen is the brains and beauty of the lady of the house who deserves credit for her excellent choice of unit which has both modernised yet stayed in keeping with the overall presentation of this lovely home. A superb cook and hostess with many years experience this lady knew exactly the demands and expectations she needed from a practical functional kitchen which would 'flow'. The kitchen has space to offer a casual dinette area and then of course the all important utility room.

Up the original staircase to the first floor landing and you will see in all its splendor the striking stained glass window commissioned by Dr Crawford to remind him of his work & his travels. I really hope you can see and appreciate the beauty this statement piece brings to this fabulous home.

On the first floor the master bedroom is undoubtedly the star of the show - not only with a fantastic range of built in bedroom furniture and an ensuite facility but it has a proper balcony!! Picture it - waking up to daylight streaming through that big bright window and getting out of bed to slide back the patio door, walk out, breathe and take in the stunning, uninterupted views that quite honestly are postcard perfect. The balcony is plenty big enough to have a table and chairs or sunloungers and absorb all that Vitamin D from the beautiful sunshine we have been blessed with and I could happily have stayed up there for hours because the scenery is utterly spectacular.

In total on the first floor you will find 4 bedrooms (4th currently set up as home office/study) and the family bathroom with separate w.c. Granted the coloured suite and the even more vibrant tiles may not be to your taste but even they are special. Custom measured, made and imported in from Italy the tiles are actually glass not porcelain or ceramic like you can readily buy now and I've never seen anything like them but love them or loathe them they certainly make a statement and talking point! I have been assured that the original bath is an absolute treat for a long soak in comparison to our newer much more shallow baths of today.

A feature spiral staircase on the first floor provides access to the attic room & bedroom 5 on the second floor - another part of this fantastic home which has offered versatile accommodation over the years. There isn't a room or a window in this amazing property that doesn't have a beautiful outlook from it and the top floor is by no means least!

My belief is that if you seek a home in the countryside it's never just about house and that the outdoor space is as important as in. With this fabulous home you can have the best of both those worlds because 'The Four Winds' allows you to enjoy your down time with the seclusion and privacy to go about your home and family life and transport you from the hussle and bussle of work life.

My other point is convenience. Location wise familiar with the area or not the Culcrum Road couldn't be simplier to find. No 55 is less than half a mile on the outskirts of Cloughmills village - approximately 10 miles from both Ballymoney and Ballymena and 40 miles from Belfast but once you turn into that private tarmac laneway you literally are in your own wee handy haven.

There are 2 aspects to my day to day work which I consider an honour and that's the wonderful property and people I get to meet. I have already enjoyed spending some time not only at this very beautiful home but also with its current owners and their love & enthusiasm for the 'Four Winds' is quite literally contagious. It's obviously quite some place when you can still bring a sparkle to someones eyes and a smile to their face reminiscing about good times and happy memories some 30 years later but I totally get it and believe me this property will truly charm you all on its own.

It's a home that has faithfully and happily served these lovely folks for the best part of a lifetime and will undoubtedly stand the test of time for many years to come when it begins an exciting new chapter with its lucky new buyer.

I cannot promise you a happy ever after with this story - thats down to you but I do believe that the enchanting 'Four Winds' has all the potential to give someone an amazing happy start to their next chapter...
