LOCATION
Bettystown, a well- known seaside resort, is situated along the east coast approx. 40km north of Dublin. For many the village conjures up happy memories of childhood holidays spent on the miles of safe sandy beaches or playing in the dunes along the shore. Today, the village is a thriving coastal town with its own primary and secondary schools, shops, restaurants, golf and tennis club, and excellent transport links by both road and rail into Dublin city centre. Dublin Airport is less than a 40 minute drive via the M1 bringing the capital city to within very reasonable commuting distance for those who still require ease of access to their place of work. Matthews bus departs on the half hour for the City Centre , bus stop walk is less than 5 mins.
DESCRIPTION
Eastham House dates from 1760 and is a fine example of a typical Georgian family home of its era which has passed through several generations over the last two centuries but has been fortunate enough to retain so many of its wonderful original features including the elegantly proportioned rooms laid out over three floors, the impressive pedimented hall door with its arched fan-light, and the winding tree lined avenue which opens up to reveal this hidden historic gem in all its handsome glory! Notwithstanding all this, not only have the current owners painstakingly restored and refurbished the original house during their tenure, but they have added a superb light filled contemporary open plan living space to the rear which incorporates a modern hand -made painted timber kitchen with centre island and 4 oven Aga, along with a central dining area under the glass atrium and a bespoke circular banquette seat around the free standing wood burning stove. All of this with views out over the south facing private and mature walled garden to the rear. First and foremost though, Eastham House is a happy family home with a warm and comfortable atmosphere. It has just got too big for its current owners now that the fledglings have flown the nest and they have reluctantly decided that it is time for a new generation to take over! A treat awaits!
On entering the impressive hallway with its wide staircase to the upper floors, the first of the reception rooms is on the right with two pairs of tall sash windows to front and back. Currently used as a snooker room, the lucky purchasers will also become the proud owners of the full size ‘Burroughes and Watts’ snooker table! To the left of the hall is the cosy family sitting-room with its wood burning stove as focal point. From here a back hall leads to the utility room, guest cloakroom and office, before opening out into the amazing modern light filled kitchen/living/dining extension with the ultimate ‘wow’ factor. They say that the kitchen houses the heart of the home and Eastham House is no exception in this regard with its salvaged parquet flooring from the Irish Sweepstakes building and lofted kitchen ceiling in keeping with the period character of the main house. Returning to the entrance hall, the sweeping staircase is dominated by the wonderful original stained glass arched landing window. The third and main reception room is on this floor, a beautiful elegantly proportioned drawing room with magnificent marble fireplace and shuttered sash windows to west and north. The master bedroom is also on this level along with its own separate stylish bathroom and generous dressing room. Finally, on the top floor, there are four very spacious family bedrooms and a contemporary fully tiled bathroom with separate shower.
Outside in the adjoining courtyard is what is known as the ‘Caretaker’s Cottage’, a charming quirky circular single storey building extending to approximately 42 sqm currently in use as an office/studio with shower room , w.c. and kitchenette.
