Additional Information

Aisling House is a beautiful and distinguished property located in the heart of Clifden town. This very attractive 7-bedroom, all en-suite, residence is ideally located within easy access to the town’s vast choice of bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries and more. The property is presented in great condition, decorated brightly throughout and oozing charm. Aisling House enjoys a fabulous balcony area, quite unique to such a property, which makes a wonderful space to enjoy a glass of wine or indeed cook a meal as it has been finished with a purpose-built cooking area.

This property is the last stop before the start of the proposed Connemara Greenway, that is currently under construction. With the necessary planning permission and permits in place, Aisling House could hold wonderful potential as perhaps a café to cater to the Greenway users and visitors. Aisling House offers an excellent opportunity for a buyer looking to perhaps get into the tourism market, with further scope to increase on what could be a steady “lifestyle” opportunity through its potential as perhaps a tea room or new business venture at the start of the Connemara Greenway..

A viewing of Aisling House is strongly advised to appreciate exactly what is on offer and its potential-an opportunity not to be missed!

LOCAL AMENITIES

Clifden town is the renowned capital of Connemara, nestled between the foothills of the Twelve Bens mountain range and the indomitable Atlantic Ocean, right on the tip of Europe. Clifden is a thriving hive of activity, synonymous with its annual Art’s Festival which is held every September. Clifden is host to many amenities including both a primary and secondary school, doctors’ surgeries, nursing home, grocery stores and hospital. There is a great selection of restaurants and eateries minutes’ walk away from Aisling House offering a variety of meals, including traditional Irish and local seafood.

Aisling House is ideally located within this cosmopolitan town to explore all there is to offer in the area. Clifden is acclaimed for its traditional music scene and there are many wonderful bars throughout the town with live musicians nightly. Also, the property is minutes away from the Station House Theatre, where many famous acts perform during the year.

Apart from the arts and musical scene, there are also many wonderful sights to behold in Clifden, including the world famous ‘Sky Road’ which is a wonderful loop drive on an elevated road which looks out over vast views of the Atlantic Ocean and Connemara Coastline. The ruins of Clifden Castle can also be seen from this road, which was the home to Clifden’s town founder, John Darcy. To explore the castle ruins, one can access them from a scenic coastal stroll from Clifden Beach.

A five minute drive from Aisling House brings you to the Derrygimlagh Bog Walk, which is five kilometre trail through an area of outstanding natural beauty and steeped with history. Pilots John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown crashed-landed in the bog in 1919 after completing the world’s first transatlantic flight. They landed close to a wireless telegraphy station which had been set up 14 years earlier by Italian inventor, Guglielmo Marconi. Today the location of the Marconi wireless station is home to a memorial cairn dedicated to the pair. Close by, in the beautiful Errislannan peninsula, there is a monument built for the Alcock and Brown. Just recently a cast bronze statue of the pair has been erected on Clifden town square.

Clifden offers a wonderful range of shops and one can also rent bikes from a number of vendors in the town to explore the surrounding area, or the Connemara Greenway, which is undergoing construction at the moment. Currently, there are circa 20 kilometres of the Greenway Completed, which is a beautiful walking/cycling trail that follows the original tracks of the old Clifden to Galway train tracks-a journey our ancestors would have travelled many years ago. The Greenway is a surfaced track which roams through the Connemara countryside and will eventually reach Galway City.

Located a 10-minute drive away, you will find Ballyconneely which is a busy little village complete with a bar, shops, a café, church, school and the Connemara Sands Hotel, perfect for a delicious meal. There is also a newly developed community park and playground. The world-renowned Connemara Golf Links and Course is a short drive from the village and there are many white sandy beaches including Mannin, the famous Coral Strand and Aillebrack beach. Aillebrack Pier is home to the Connemara Smokehouse which is the oldest smokehouse in Connemara and one of the oldest in Western Ireland specialising in smoking wild Atlantic Salmon.

The stunning seaside village of Roundstone is a 20 minute drive from Aisling House, which is hugely popular with renowned among artists and naturalists for the remarkable beauty of the surrounding mountains and seascapes. It has a traditional craft centre and local activities include Connemara Pottery, Connemara Jewellery and Connemara Instrument making. Connemara Farming, Connemara Fishing, Connemara Forestry and Connemara Quarrying are carried out extensively in the area. There is also a busy harbour and many lovely bars, restaurants, cafes and shops to enjoy a drink or peruse local crafts.

The Connemara National Park located 15 minutes from Aisling House in Letterfrack  provides a selection of lovely walks from wooded to mountainside, including one to the top of Diamond Hill. Staff at the park run activities for children during the summer months and the information centre gives a good history of the area.

Kylemore Abbey and Gardens is also just a 5-minute drive from the Letterfrack. The Abbey is currently host to students from the famous Notre Dame University, but the spectacular and historic building on the edge of Kylemore Lake is open to the public and the grounds provide lovely lakeside walks. There is an extensive shop and coffee shop catering to tourists. The old walled Victorian gardens, which have been restored and refurbished, display a great variety of plants and trees and bring one back to another era.

Other things to do and see in the area:

  • Ballinahinch Castle Hotel for fine food and beautiful woodland and riverside walks open throughout the grounds (10 minutes drive)
    • Many lovely beaches within a 5 to 15 minute drive
  • Killary Harbour and marvellous Leenane village with its bars, restaurants and shops is 35 minutes away

of outdoor activities for children and adults. It is the site of The Misunderstood Herron-a world famous coffee stop
    • Scuba dive west – (30 minutes drive) – for experienced divers or beginners
they provide courses and trips for every level.
