Northern Ireland Tourism comes to StreetView

All of the team here at Property Pal towers are big fans of Google Streetview. We were the first property portal in Northern Ireland to implement it on our property listings – and for good reason. What better way to experience the local area than from the comfort of your own home! Google are continuing to increase their streetview reach across the length and breadth of the province and w’ve noticed the recent updates to include properties in Dunmurry and Lisburn, with new imagery being added to all the time.

Interestingly, they have started to work on areas of outstanding natural beauty, in partnership with the National Trust. Due to these locations generally being harder to reach by car these are now being mapped via the StreetView Trike. Wowser!

Here are a couple of the attractions they’ve mapped. Take a look.

Mount Stewart Streetview

The exotic luxuriance of Mount Stewart’s celebrated gardens, created in the 1920′s by Edith, Lady Londonderry, has helped make it one of Northern Ireland’s most popular tourist destinations, both for local tourism, and those visiting from further afield. With the Northern Irish weather being somewhat less than predictable, thanks to our friends at Google we can now experience the beauty of the gardens and the surrounding estate via Google Streetview.

Downhill Demesne & Hezlett House Streetview

Located 1 mile west of Castlerock, Co. Londonderry Hezlett House and the Mussenden Temple forms part of the estate of Frederick Augustus Hervey, Bishop of Derry and Earl of Bristol. It was built as a summer library and its architecture was inspired by the Temple of Vesta in Tivoli, near Rome.

The Temple and the surrounding views are among the most photographed scenes in Ireland, and Flickr is choc-full of the same. Over the years the Temple itself was under danger of being lost to the sea due to the erosion of the cliff which brought Mussenden Temple ever closer to the edge – which the National Trust saved in 1997. You can get a zoomed in preview of the temple if you keep walking closer to the cliff in this streetview movie.
