With a small amount of D.I.Y. home improvement under his belt — including speakers that recess into the ceiling with the click of a garage door opener — Mr. Thaler decided to tackle a geeky kitchen makeover on his own.

Using a commercial Boeing 747 Jet, car dealer Francie Rehweld embarked upon an ambitious five year project to create a home from as many recycled parts of the stripped down jet as possible. Originally purchased for under $US50,000, the five year project was completed at the end of last month, with almost all of the 179 tonne plane used in the final structure.
